Yes, the guy was a flake, but if citizenship were a requirement, then Bobby Knight would not be in the hall -- and he has less rings than Rodman. Yes, he could not score, but doesn't every coach say defense and rebounds win championships? In the 1990s, no one did both better. Few forwards in history played better defense. No forward ever dominated the boards like Rodman, and you can put him on the short list with Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell as the greatest rebounders ever. The stat geeks have shown that he grabbed a higher percentage of rebounds during his 7 year run than any player in history.
If lack of offense keeps him out, then lack of defense should have kept out Pete Maravic.
Rodman should have been a first ballot inductee. Without him, Chicago does not win the last 3 titles of the Jordan era. Many argued (myself included) that he was the rightful MVP of the 1996 finals.
